No! You don’t get to end this! I’m f*cking Adam! I’m the f*cking man, and you're just some f*cking clown or something! I started everything on Earth! All of mankind came from these f*cking nuts! You all should be worshipping me, you ungrateful, disgusting, f*cking LOSERS!!
~ Adam's villainous breakdown moments before being stabbed to death by Niffty

Adam is the main antagonist of the first season of the animated musical black comedy series Hazbin Hotel.

He was the first man ever created, who has become an Angel after death and now leads the exterminations to Hell in order to control the population of sinners to prevent an uprising against Heaven, but more importantly, fullfill his sadistic pleasures.

He was voiced by Alex Brightman.

His Qualities[]

What Makes Him Entertaining?[]

  • He has a really great design which differs from other angels and exorcists in the series, not to mention it makes him stand out and seem more imposing.
  • He has a great load of comedic moments that are enjoyable for the audience to watch.
  • He sings "Hell is Forever" in the first episode, a song that has a great instumental theme and Alex Brightman does a very nice job singing it. The song has become very popular among fans, not to mention his part in "You Didn't Know" is also very well liked and sounds really good.
  • His battle with Alastor is very entertaining and Adam breaking his staff is a very iconic moment.
  • His final battle with Lucifer is filled with playful banter from Lucifer provoking Adam and is very well executed, providing an entertaining battle.
  • His death has a slightly comedic tone as it's revealed that Niffty is the one who stabbed him (as a callback to before the fight when Charlie told her to stab angels) instead of being killed off by a more powerful character like Alastor or Lucifer, or someone with more connections to him like Vaggie.
  • His friendship with Lute is shown to be very genuine and it's quite fun to watch the two of them bond over sadism.

What Makes Him Detestable?[]

  • He attempted to control Lilith and force her to submit to him which led her to flee the garden and meet Lucifer, ultimately culminating in the creation of sin, and Adam himself refuses to accept his partial role in this, outright saying he has never made mistakes in his entire life. His misogynistic attitude is also very recurring in the series and he's not shown to respect anyone at all, not even Sera.
  • He convinced Sera to have the Exterminations as a way to keep Sinners from overpopulating and rebelling against Heaven, which is actually just a cover story for him wanting to slaughter sinners for his own self-sadism, which he openly admits to Charlie in "Hell is Forever" while mocking her idea of sinners being able to be redeemed.
  • He decided to have the extermination 6 months in advance in response to Carmilla Carmine killing an Exorcist in self-defense and mocked Charlie about this right after singing "Hell is Forever" where he dismissed her goal as a childish dream, not to mention he waited until the last second to hear her out as he spent the entire meeting talking about himself.
  • He blackmailed Vaggie into helping shut down Charlie's idea in court, and during the trial sang with Lute during "You Didn't Know" mocking the idea of Angel Dust being able to redeem himself, and telling Charlie how giddy he is to go down to Hell and kill her, revealing the Exterminations to Emily and the rest of Heaven despite Sera having warned him that no one outside the exorcist army should know. In response to being rightfully called out by Emily and Charlie, he spitefully revealed that Vaggie used to be one of his Exorcists which put a dent in her and Charlie's relationship, breaking Charlie's heart and ultimately leading her to accept a deal with Alastor.
  • He threatened Charlie that he would go to the Hotel first in the Extermination and kill everyone there.
  • His assault on the Hotel led to the deaths of all except one of the Egg Bois and hundreds of cannibals. He also fought and defeated Alastor, which left him severely traumatized and wishing to break free of his deal to never feel weak again, killed Dazzle, one of Charlie's demon goats, and blasted Sir Pentious into oblivion, killing him and leaving all his friends emotionally devastated (even leading Charlie to use her Demon Form and fight him head on) while sarcastically joking about it.
  • When Lucifer arrived to fight him, he openly mocked him about how hated he is in history due to his accidental creation of sin and destroyed the entire Hazbin Hotel while trying to kill him.
  • He tried to attack Lucifer from behind only to be stopped by Charlie and defeated. Even after Lucifer shows him mercy, he continues to provoke him and Charlie and further incite conflict while claiming himself to be superior to everyone as the first man and taunting the sinners present about how they all descended from him.
  • His death, despite being played for slight sympathy, is treated as a good thing as he can no longer bring more harm.
  • Despite having a genuine friendship with Lute, he still constantly insults and mistreats her.
