“ | We can win a war against the humans. Not only because we have the support of Hazel's master, but because the Faunus are the dominant species of this planet. We're better than humans. We have everything humans have and more. Humans shouldn’t just fear the Faunus, they should serve the Faunus. | „ |
~ Adam expressing his goal. |
“ | People hurt me long before we met... All sorts of people in all sorts of ways... but no one hurt me quite like you...You didn't leave scars, you just left me alone. So... tell me, Blake... how does it feel to be alone? | „ |
~ Adam revealing his need for vengeance against Blake to her. |
Adam Taurus is a malevolent and vengeful bull Faunus who is the arch-nemesis of Blake Belladonna (his ex-girlfriend and former student) and Yang Xiao Long (his love rival). He is a major antagonist in RWBY and served as one of the main antagonists of Volume 6.
He was voiced by Garrett Hunter in English and Yuichi Nakamura in Japanese.
His Qualities[]
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- When he commits terrorist acts in public, he disguises himself as a well-intentioned extremist to avoid being caught and punished.
- While it doesn't excuse his actions as he was divorced from his trauma, Adam had a tragedy of suffering constant racism. In fact, he is even meant to be seen as a somewhat sympathetic villain who doesn't deserve too much sympathy from the audience because he isn't a really sympathetic character despite his past.
- He has many Evil is Cool factors like:
- His outfit. He is notable for his good-looking character design since he has red hair, a cool mask with some red on it, a black jacket (in the early volumes of the series), a black long sleeved shirt (in volumes 4, 5 and 6) and a sick sword which is red.
- His voice. Garrett Hunter's voice acting was so good that he managed to make Adam sound very intimidating and cool.
- His masterful fighting skills. He is good at fighting as he knows a lot of fighting techniques like agility and durability. He also has a cool battle against Blake and Yang in Volume 6 which is considered to be one of the memorable events in the series.
- His defeat, which has him getting stabbed by Blake and Yang at the same time before walking over to a cliff (that leads to a waterfall), staring at the sky and falling into the waterfall while spinning as he hits a rock.
- It's implied that he felt remorse for his actions before his defeat, as he looks at the sky with a confused expression on his face before ultimately meeting his fate.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- He is a bloodthirsty misanthrope who murdered numerous innocent people just to satisfy himself without showing any consideration for the innocent people's deaths.
- He never truly loved or cared about Blake as he just manipulated her into joining his side. He also made many attempts to kill Blake (and Yang) throughout the series and stop at nothing to destroy everything she loved (which he repeatedly proved multiple times throughout the series). He also took pleasure in mentally and physically abusing Blake with the intent of tormenting her for his own enjoyment.
- He is completely prejudiced against humanity for supposedly ruining his life, even though he brought all the shame on himself.
- He sliced off Yang's arm and almost killed her and Blake.
- He unleashed a horde of Grimm onto the city during the Vytal Festival, which caused several deaths.
- He played a part in the Fall of Beacon as he murdered several students and staff members during Cinder Fall's genocide against the academy.
- He led an attack on Haven Academy and was willing to have the academy destroyed. He even tried to detonate explosives to kill himself, Blake and all the other Faunus present, showing that he is a coward who is willing to endanger others just to save his life.
- He kills anyone who dares to question his actions.
- When Blake and Yang gave him a chance to let go of the past, he rejected his offer of redemption and tried to kill the two girls out of spite.
- He is very petty, as his motive is to kill Blake simply because she betrayed him for a strong reason. Considering that Blake and Yang eventually became a lesbian couple after his demise, his hatred of Yang can in hindsight be interpreted as him being aware there was something between them and him being jealous of Yang because of this.
- His actions ultimately led to Blake throwing a fit after she and Yang killed him because they were both aware that Adam is a threat that must be defeated.
Trivia[]
- Adam was originally considered a Hate Sink, but he was later removed from the Hate Sink wiki since it was revealed that he is meant to be seen as a complex and cool villain who is treated with a little bit of sympathy. Thus, he became Entertainingly Detestable instead.
