Entertainingly Detestable Wiki

You, my little cowboy friend, are gonna make me big, buck-buck-bucks! [laughs greedily] Buck-buck-bucks! [continues laughing] Buck-buck-bucks!
~ Al’s rise to power, telling Woody about his plans for him, and his most famous quote.

Albert "Al" McWhiggin, also known as The Chicken Man, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Stinky Pete) of Pixar's 3rd full-length animated feature film Toy Story 2, the second installment in the Toy Story film series. He is a greedy toy collector who is bent on having Woody's roundup for himself and selling them to a museum in Japan.

He was voiced by Wayne Knight.

His Qualities[]

What Makes Him Entertaining?[]

  • He is a rather memorable "villain" in the film, being treated more comically than any other Pixar villain and is the only human "villain" who's treated as a fun comic-relief.
  • He is probably one of, if not the hammiest villain to come from a Pixar movie, which allows him express himself in a comically expressive manner.
  • Additionally, he has a good chunk of laughable and hilarious moments, as he is generally so silly and buffoonish that it is hard not to find him funny and entertaining.
  • Wayne Knight does a incredibly good job at voicing him.
  • He does a good job of masking his greedy nature in public with his charismatic chicken persona.
  • He looks like Wayne Knight with a different hairstyle, which makes him iconic.
  • The fact he even rides an teal and white 1950s-style coupe, and his suave moment with printing and faxing pictures are a joy a watch, this gives him somewhat of a "Evil Is Cool" vibe, especially when he expresses his enjoyment in getting ready to go to Japan.
  • He has many amazing and funny quotes in the movie, such as:
    • "You, my little cowboy friend, are gonna make me big, buck-buck-bucks!"
    • "Original hand-painted face. Natural-dyed, blanket-stitched vest! Hmm, a little rip. Fixable. Oh, if only you had your hand-stitched, polyvinyl... [gasps as seeing Woody's hat] A HAT! I FOUND HIM! I FOUND HIM, I FOUND HIM!"
    • "Uh, I'll pay 50 cents for this uh junk."
    • "Wait! You like my watch!?"
    • "It's me, Al! I got an emergency here! Yeah, we're all busy b-but IT HAS TO BE TONIGHT! Alright! Alright! But first thing in the morning."
    • "WUH WHA, WAIT! NO OFFICER I SWEAR!"
    • "Ahh ahh, there you go, cheapskate."
    • "I can't believe I have to drive all the way to work on a Saturday. All the way to work!"
    • "It's showtime!! Ohoho, money baby! Money money. Nehahahaheh!!"
    • "And now, the main attraction!"
    • "It is amazing, you're a genius! He's just like NEW!"
  • His commercials are timeless and hilarious to watch, especially for how eccentric and over-the-top his chicken persona is.
  • He is Pixar's best example of making an obnoxious character actually funny and enjoyable with a level of charm without going overboard.
  • His hilariously cowardly side is shown when he mutters, "no, officer, I swear." after Stinky Pete wakes him up from his sleep by turning on the TV, as this could imply that he may have feared of being caught by the police for stealing Woody (and possibly other valuable toys) despite his cocky attitude.
  • He has a "pet the dog" moment when he gets a repairman to fix Woody's arm and even thanks the repairman by calling him a genius, showing that he takes relatively good care of his collection despite the greedy, obnoxious, and selfish man that he is.

What Makes Him Detestable?[]

  • As to be expected, he is greedy and treacherous. On top of wanting to become rich even in the most sinister ways, specifically resorting to theft, and has little or no patience for anyone or anything that gets in his way.
    • When things do not go his way, he resorts to dirty tricks to get what he wants, as shown after failing to convince Andy's mom to sell Woody to him over deals in a goofy yet persistent fashion, instead of walking to find himself another Woody doll to add to his collection: he attempted to pull a trick on her by quickly creating a distraction at the garage sale by kicking a skateboard, drawing her attention away long enough for him to pick the lock of her money box and steals Woody without her looking.
  • He is shown to be a hypocrite in the original script for the second film, he calls out a couple of children for taking some toys from his store without paying for them, yet he also committed theft by stealing Woody from Andy's home in the first place.
  • He can be petty and childish, as shown when he complained about going to his penthouse on a Saturday (when it's not even that far from his apartment), and when aggressively slammed into the toy repairman he paid to fix and stitch Woody for no discernible reason. Additionally, the reason he became a toy collector was because he was never allowed to play with toys as a child, which is way too petty to justify his villainy, which prevents him from being a Magnificent Baddie.
    • He appears to be very rude, verbally abusive, and arrogant when interacting with other people, such as when he unceremoniously (and violently) shoves Geri aside, goes off on the package shipping service clerk on the phone about the pricing in Japan with six packages, and talks down to the airport staff. He will only act a little polite if he has to schmooze with potential buyers that call him.
    • He couldn't care less about nearly causing car crashes as he rushed his way to work without patiently waiting to drive across. Additionally, he parks his car across two handicapped spots in front of his building because he is too lazy to park farther away.
    • Despite being the owner of a toy store, he has no qualms about stealing toys not for sale and his penthouse doesn't allow children, with the original script showing him screaming "I HATE KIDS!" after two boys on bikes steal the Prospector and Senorita Cactus dolls and refuse to give them back.
