Queen Azshara is a major antagonist in the Warcraft franchise and was one of the main causes for the War of the Ancients.
She used to be the beloved Queen of the Night Elves 10 thousand years prior to the events of the first Warcraft game, until she allied with Sargeras and the Burning Legion and let them rampage across Azeroth. Then, she and her follworers sank to the bottom of the sea and started drowning, but made a pact with the Old God N'Zoth who transformed them into the Naga and saved their lives.
After this, Azshara builds a massive underwater empire and rules the Naga for the next 10 thousand years.
Her Qualities[]
What Makes Her Entertaining?[]
- She is an extremely successful Queen who ruled over the Night Elves for centuries and created the greatest Empire at the time. During her reign, the Night Elven empire expanded its territory, and it flourished in terms of prosperity and advancement, her subjects had a good living standard and they loved her.
- She is one of the most powerful sorcerers to have ever been born. She is so powerful that she can rival even high-ranking leaders of the Burning Legion like Mannoroth who tries to crush her head but is completely unable to reach her due to her magic stopping him. She also uses her magic to make the people around her love her unconditionally.
- Despite being an extremely powerful sorceress, she still pretends to be weak with magic and hides how powerful she actually is from her servants because she wants the people around her to underestimate her and not see her as a threat which would allow her to manipulate them more easily, showing that she can be smart.
- She is extremely beautiful to the point there are legends about her beauty and uses her looks to charm people to like her and do her bidding without questions. She would often flirt with the male Night Elves who serve her for her own entertainment.
- She has a very charming personality which endears the people to her, makes them like her and want to serve her.
- Even after her actions destroy her previous empire and she and the other Highborne Night Elves sink to the bottom of the sea, Azshara makes a pact with the Old God N'Zoth to transform them into the serpent-like creatures called Naga and save their lives in exchange for serving him. Not only that, but she manages to blackmail him into keeping her position as Queen, pointing out that he needs her to get free from his prison and mocking him about it without showing any fear of his far superior powers. This forces N'Zoth to make her Queen of the Naga after her transformation and she still comes out on top.
- As the Queen of the Naga, she creates an extremely successful underwater empire with great cities and palaces and has ruled over it for 10 thousand years.
- She provides enjoyable missions for the players where they have to fight against her servants and by the end of the raid, she provides a boss fight where the players have to fight against her and defeat her.
- Even after she is defeated, she still manages to accomplish what she wanted and successfully frees the Old God N'Zoth who takes her away before the players are able to finish her off.
- Even after N'Zoth discovers that she was planning to betray him, imprisons her and subjects her to tortures, Azshara still manages to escape from that situation. When the players arrive to kill N'Zoth, Azshara calls for them to help her out and in exchange she would give them a special dagger with which they could kill N'Zoth. After the players save her from the tortures, Azshara upholds her end of the bargain and gives them the dagger, showing that she can ally with her enemies when it's convenient to her. She then opens a portal and escapes without any consequences.
What Makes Her Detestable?[]
- She is an extreme elitist who looks down on anyone who isn't a Highborne Night Elf like her and thinks all non-Night Elf races are lesser and should be wiped out which is why she and Xavius start studying the Well of Eternity more thoroughly to find a spell with which they could do it. She also looks down on anyone who isn't beautiful enough by her standards or has something else which makes them imperfect in her eyes like an injury and she only surrounds herself with people whom she deems to be close enough to perfection.
- She is extremely narcissistic and vain, is obsessed with her beauty, thinks that she is the most perfect being to have ever been born, thinks that no man who is lesser than a god is worthy to be her husband and thinks that the world should be purified of anyone who doesn't meet her standards of perfection, so she can rule over a "perfect" world. She is also so arrogant that she can't ever accept that she might be wrong about something and thinks she is always right.
- Even though her subjects used to live well under her rule, she doesn't actually care about them and just sees them as objects that can give her the adoration and love she craves for and thinks she deserves as well as extensions of her empire and her rule. The moment she thinks she can acquire greater power by allying with Sargeras and the Burning Legion, she is willing to let her people die.
- She has a low opinion of men and thinks they are stupid and that they are toys which she can manipulate and even turn against one another in the hopes that they would win her affection which amuses her. She even assumes that Tyrande is the same as her in that regard and congratulates her on getting the Stormrage twins to fight for her affection even though that's not something Tyrande intended.
- She opens a portal for the Burning Legion to enter Azeroth and wipe out anyone who isn't perfect enough for her new world. Even after the demons tell her that they are going to wipe out most of her race with the exception of a select few, she accepts it and continues to help the Burning Legion, betraying her people in the process because she wants to create a world which is purified of anything imperfect and then rule it and because she wants to marry the Dark Titan Sargeras, the ruler of the Burning Legion and become even more powerful as his wife. Her actions lead to the War of the Ancients which is one of the most devastating conflicts in the Warcraft universe and the deaths of countless innocents and almost causes the complete eradication of most life on the planet.
- Even after the portal she opened for the demons is destroyed which leads to the Sundering, a cataclysmic event that splits apart the continent of Kalimdor into several smaller continents, and she and all her followers sink to the bottom of the sea and start drowning, she refuses to take responsibility for her actions and instead blames the people who resisted against the Burning Legion and Sargeras and ruined her plans.
- After she and her followers are transformed into the Naga and she becomes their Queen, she creates an empire which is built on mass slavery with her sending the Naga on regular raids to attack other races, slaughter many and take the survivors into slavery to work for her which makes her one of the most prolific slavers in the Warcraft universe.
