Brian H. Griffin is one of the deuteragonists of the adult animated series Family Guy.
He is the Griffin family's pet dog and Peter Griffin and Stewie Griffin's best friend. He starts as a good yet slightly bitter dog before devolving into a hypocritical, pretentious douche.
He is voiced by series creator Seth MacFarlane, who also voices Stewie Griffin in the same series.
His Qualities[]
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- Despite being a dog, he is as intelligent as a human, being even more mature and sophisticated than most of the other family members and a voice of reason in earlier seasons.
- Even if it doesn’t hold up, he has a tragic past of being an orphaned dog who was eventually saved by Peter and being a failed writer in the present who is unable to find happiness.
- Like other Family Guy characters, he is constantly played for laughs and has plenty of comedic moments.
- He has a genuine friendship with his family, especially his best friend Stewie. They constantly go on adventures with each other, making the two of them an iconic intelligent duo.
- Being the most "human" out of all characters, his struggles as a writer and his insecurities makes him very relatable, being considered to be the most relatable dog in cartoon history.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- Being an On & Off character, he committed many villainous deeds throughout the series, especially in the newer episodes of where he commits more villainous acts than heroic.
- He is a pervert who is obsessed with having sex with both humans and dogs, especially to Lois, who he tried to sleep with many times and even raped her one time by swapping bodies with Peter.
- He is a massive jerk to everyone, especially to Meg who is the punching bag of the show.
- He is extremely egotistical, selfish and arrogant, thinking of himself as smarter and better than anyone else, and constantly blames other people for his mistakes other than himself.
- He is a massive hypocrite, calling out Peter on his villainous actions, despite the fact he is no better than him.
- His tragic backstory doesn't hold up, just as Quagmire points out that Brian prefers to never learn from his mistakes.
