~ Captain Phasma's last words to Finn before her death as she falls into the fire. |
Captain Phasma is a supporting antagonist in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Her Qualities[]
What Makes Her Entertaining?[]
- In general, she is shown to have many compelling traits, which include her backstory, the fact that her armor is made from chromium salvaged from a Naboo yacht once owned by Emperor Palpatine, her strong Evil is Cool vibes and her progressive character.
- Gwendoline Christie’s performance is undeniably amazing.
- Her suit design looks cool. Which as said above is from a Naboo yacht.
- Phasma's armor was based on the original concept of Kylo Ren. The material is chromium which is from Naboo, the homeworld of Kylo Ren's grandmother Padmé Amidala.
- An interview confirms that she was written with "Evil is Cool" in mind.
- While a coward, she manage to stand against BB-8's hijack walker.
- Her armor is cool as well.
- She murdered Brendol Hux (who pretty much deserved it for his actions) by poisoning him with a venomous Parnassos beetle under the orders of his estranged son Armitage, despite that Hux was her benefactor, the one who took her and Frey offworld and offered them a place on the First Order.
- When her stormtroopers accompanied her and Kylo Ren to Jakku, she ordered them to not minimize casualties and deem all Tuanul villagers as responsible for hiding Lor San Tekka. After Ren killed San Tekka and Poe Dameron was taken into custody, she gave the order to fire on the Tuanul villagers. This can show how much of an efficient commander she is.
- She almost successfully killed Finn in a final fight for betraying the First Order even though she did the same by lowering the shields of Starkiller Base (though she didn't have a choice on the latter as she was coerced by Finn, Han Solo and Chewbacca into doing so).
- She has several geunuely Pet the Dog moments, which strips her from being Pure Evil:
- While cold towards Siv, Phasma considers her to be one of the closest things she ever had to an actual friend.
- Also she gave a First Order pilot, TN-3465, some honor as she died and unlike how she taunted KM-8713, she consider TN-3465 a good ally.
- She also warned Elrik Vonreg to retreat his attack from Poe and Kaz, because she was going to blow the abandoned Station Theta Black.
- Although she doesn't get much appearance on-screen, various side material focusing on her such as comics, video games and even her own novel have delved deeper into her character and exploits.
What Makes Her Detestable?[]
- She is shown to have ruthlessly committed a number of vile atrocities without any remorse, which along with her ungratefulness prevents her from being a Magnificent Baddie. Good examples of her cruel deeds include:
- Orchestrating the deaths of her clan and her own parents with the Scyre tribe so she and her brother Keldo could survive and be accepted into the Scyre, even though she stabbed Keldo in the foot, disabling him.
- Killing Keldo for rallying the Scyre and Claw clans to hunt her down as she didn't respect the established peace, even though Keldo realized that he hadn't saved his people and pleaded her to call the First Order for help as he succumbed from radioactive sickness.
- She use one of KM-8713's troopers, DB-7197, as a human shield and taunted KM-8713 as she died.
- Detonating the abandoned Station Theta Black with Poe Dameron and Kazuda Xiono inside it, though they miraculously survived.
- Punishing FN-2187 simply because he took off his helmet, concluding that he needed to be reconditioned for not firing at the Tunaul villages and for removing his helmet to vomit when she didn't give him the authorization to do so.
- Pinning the blame for lowering Starkiller Base's shields on Lieutenant Sol Rivas and hunting him down with the help of the TIE pilot TN-3465 and her droid BB-K8. In the end, following her killing of Rivas, she killed TN-3465 and destroyed BB-K8 to tie any loose ends.
- Gleefully trying to execute FN-2187 (now known as Finn) and Rose Tico aboard the Supremacy for his act of treason and ordering the executioners to behead them, even though they weren't able to do so given Vice Admiral Holdo's sacrifice due to crashing the Raddus against the Supremacy.
- Right before her death, she called Finn "scum", despite the fact that Finn had a clean record before defecting from the First Order, showing that she never truly respected him or any other stormtrooper.
