Mayor Clayton Middleinitial "Clay" Puppington is the main antagonist of the Adult Swim stop-motion show Moral Orel.

He is the abusive, alcoholic father of Orel Puppington, stepfather of his wife's second son Shapey Puppington and the unofficial adoptive father of Block Posabule. His wife is Bloberta Puppington. He frequently complains about his 'lousy, stinking dead-end job', which is revealed in the penultimate episode Nesting to be the Mayor of Moraltown.

He was voiced by Scott Adsit.

His Qualities[]

What Makes Him Entertaining?[]

  • Scott Adsit plays him very well, having plenty of comedic moments despite darkening after the Season 2 finale in which he crosses the Moral Event Horizon.
  • He is also rather charismatic and good-looking, which even caused many viewers to overlook his numerous flaws and villainies.
  • He is a deconstruction of the Standard 50s Father trope.
  • His advice to Orel backfires in numerous and hilarious ways, often darkly comedic, such as

What Makes Him Detestable?[]

  • Clay is abusive or neglectful towards his wife and son, and even his lover Coach Stopframe, cheating on him with Ms. Censordoll. But the worst things he has done is to shoot Orel in the leg after trying and failing to corrupt his idealism into his own hopeless cynicism.
  • Although he unintentionally kills his mother in a prank gone wrong as a child, he is not noted to have the same level of distress or sadness his father has.
  • He, in the end, remains a pathetic and depressed man after Stopframe leaves him and resigns himself to a miserable existence.
