Donquixote Doflamingo is the main antagonist of the Dressrosa Saga in the One Piece anime and manga series. He was one of the seven warlords of the sea, the king of Dressrosa, and a Celestial Dragon. He wanted to become immortal and wanted to destroy the world the Celestial Dragons ruled out of revenge for them disallowing him from returning to be a Celestial Dragon.

What Makes Him Entertaining?

• He has an eccentric and charismatic demeanor that makes him stand out for his uniqueness.
• Doflamingo is charming and persuasive enough that he is able to maintain his crew with blind loyalty.
• He is shown to philosophical and expresses views about issues within the world ranging from individuals who grow up in war and those who grew up in opulence. This also include his views on power, villainy, and the rise of a new generation.
• He is shown to be an extremely powerful individual who can put up a challenging fight against multiple people with little to no issues. For instance, he is able to survive a point-blank explosion from Baby 5 without sustaining any injuries.
• He has an iconic villainous laugh that stands out among other villains in the series.
• He gives Luffy one of the most challenging fights when the latter enters the New World.

What Makes Him Detestable?

• He was a Celestial Dragon. Unlike his immediate family, he was a sadistic egotist who enjoyed tormenting those around them and keeping slaves. When he loses that status, he still maintains his supremacist views and sees people as beneath him for the fact that they are not Celestial Dragons.
• He is shown murdering people of his own family.
  • He murders his father out of frustration and cuts off his head to try to give to the Celestial Dragon to get his status back.
  • He murders his brother, Donquixote Rocinante, because the latter tried to save Law's life with the Op Op fruit and for standing against him.
• He is a xenophobe who has intense hatred for people in the D clan. When Law tells him about the D to taunt him, Doflamingo tries to brutally kill him in response.
• Doflamingo caused an untold amount of pain, misery, and suffering in the kingdom of Dressrosa during his decade long rule.
  • He framed King Riku for a mass murder he committed and within the span of the night became the king of the country.
  • He had Sugar turn hundreds to thousands of people and animals into toys and make them slaves for his underground illegal business. When they are toys, they are under Sugar's contract and they are forced to work for her until they break down and perish.
  • He abuses the Corrida Colosseum participants and makes them live in inhospitable condition while forcing them to have deadly battles for his own entertainment.
• When his evil deeds are exposed to the entire country, Doflamingo decides to summon the birdcage to kill everyone on the island to cover up everything. He is aware that he is killing innocent people and did not care that his crew would die since he saw them as relevant pawns to him.
• It is highly implied that his relationship with Viola was not consensual, making him a possible rapist.
