Enmu (in Japanese: 魘夢, Enmu) is a major antagonist in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime/manga series, with him serving as one of two main antagonists of the Mugen Train Arc (alongside Akaza).
He was a member of the Twelve Kizuki demons, specifically a Lower Rank One who directly served under Muzan Kibutsuji.
His Qualities[]
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- His vocal performances by Daisuke Hirakawa and Landon McDonald in the Japanese and English versions respectively help solidify his image as a soft-spoken yet sadistic antagonist.
- He has a sophisticated and well-mannered facade. As shown when he politely greets Tanjiro upon first meeting him and continued to hold up his cordial and affable exterior even as they fought. But all of this is simply for the sake of manipulating those around him into trusting him. This is the main trait that disqualifies him from being able to count as a full-on Hate Sink in spite of him having otherwise no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
- His method of killing people by sending them to sleep first where they experience good dreams, while not done out of kindness, is still a rather merciful fate for him to inflict upon his victims rather than to outright kill them. As rather than having them die in pain and fear, he allows them die in a state of happiness with them not even being aware of Enmu's intentions.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- He was already a horrible person even before joining forces with Muzan, as a source from Demon Slayer states that he scammed multiple people by pretending to be a doctor.
- He's highly sadistic, responding with immense joy whenever a member of the Lower Ranks was brutally slaughtered by Muzan and even managing to save himself from suffering the same fate by openly stating his love of seeing others die in agony.
