The Fairy Godmother is the main antagonist of DreamWorks's 8th full-length animated feature film Shrek 2 and the overarching antagonist of Shrek the Third.

She originally made a deal with King Harold of Far Far Away to have her son Prince Charming rescue Harold's daughter Princess Fiona from the Dragon's Keep and free her from the curse, which makes her turn into an ogress by night. When her plans were foiled due to Shrek and Donkey rescuing Fiona before Charming, she plotted to have Fiona marry Charming instead.

She was voiced by Jennifer Saunders in the film and Claudia Christian in the video game.

What Makes Her Entertaining?

• Jennifer Saunders did an excellent job of voicing her and gave her a beautiful singing voice, which is especially shown in her performance of "Holding Out for a Hero".
• She has some comedic moments throughout the film, such as the song she sings to Fiona, her interrupting her son's speech about his journey to the tower so she can give it herself and having her cart go to a drive-thru saying her diet is ruined.
• She is an intelligent manipulator as seen in her schemes. A good example is after Shrek stole a potion that would transform him into a handsome human, she tricks Fiona into thinking Prince Charming is the transformed Shrek.
• She has a pleasant and charismatic demeanor, appearing as kind and caring to others before revealing her true colors.
• She truly cares for her son Charming.

What Makes Her Detestable?

• She is highly prejudiced toward ogres, just because they are stereotypically ugly.
• Through her deal with Fiona's parents, she kept Fiona locked away in a tower guarded by a dragon in the first place and arranged for only Prince Charming to rescue her.
• She agreed to turn King Harold human only if he complies to having Fiona marry Charming and blackmails him.
• She creates a potion that would cause Fiona to fall in love with Charming and tries to coerce Harold into giving it to Fiona.
• She manipulates Shrek into thinking Fiona doesn't love him and Fiona into almost marrying Charming.
• She tries to kill Shrek after her plan is foiled.
