Funny Valentine is the main antagonist of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run.
He is the 23th American president and the mastermind behind Steel Ball Run horse race. His goal is to collect all the Saint Corpses to make America the greatest country in the world.
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- Funny Valentine is widely considered one of the most three-demensional and well-written villains in the JoJo franchise, due to how his sympathetic backstory and his noble goals makes him shift into evil:
- His father was tortured and killed in American Civil War, and left a napkin for Funny to make him remember his patriotism. Funny was deeply moved by his father's sacrifice, decided to keep his napkin forever and inherit his patriot quality.
- He has a cool Stand named Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, with the powerful ability to access alternate dimensions, making him the most formidable opponent to Johnny and Gyro.
- He is a mastermind who plans the whole horse race to collect Saint Corpse for him, and takes action whenever a contestant find a Corpse piece.
- He is charismatic and manipulative, can convince many people into following his cause to collect Saint Corpse for America.
- He is a strategist who can always find a way to outwit his opponent.
- Despite how evil he is, he isn't too vile as most of his evil deeds are pragmatic villainy to achieve his goals. Unlike most JoJo main antagonists, he is not a sadist and doesn't have much kick-the dog moments.
- He is always calm and seldom has any villainous breakdown. Even on the edge to being killed by Johnny, he tried to persuade Johnny to give Saint Corpse to him by expressing his beliefs, and even made a fake promise to bring back Gyro to manipulate Johnny.
- He has comedic moments like saying "Dojyaaan" (which means ta-da).
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- He is a jingoist instead of the patriot he claims to be. Despite he has an intention of using Saint Corpse to benefit his country, this doesn't make him a well-intentioned extremist, because this act would make the rest of the world in eternal chaos and even completely destroyed.
- He is a hypocrite. Although he claims to benefit the people of his country, he has no problem killing his own people, as is evidenced when he used D4C Love train to transfer his damage to innocent people without any remorse.
- The biggest reason he can't be a Magnificent Baddie is that he is a hebephile and rapist. After discovering Lucy's disguise as his wife and revealing her true appearance, he tries to rape her and make her bear his child, despite knowing she is a 14-year-old teenager.
