Gregory "Greg" Heffley is the main protagonist of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series.

What Makes Him Entertaining?[]

  • He has loads of funny dialogue and his reactions to everything about him.
  • His perspectives on life are always interesting and relatable to a degree.
  • He has moments when he is a overall nice kid and friend.
  • He is presented in a relatively sympathetic way.
  • He has different moments of respect and acceptance of responsibility.
  • Despite his arguments with them, he does love his family.
  • In the movies, he is portrayed as less of a jerk and more of a nice character.

What Makes Him Detestable?[]

  • He is extremely arrogant and openly views himself as someone who is meant to be rich and famous while everyone else is cretins beneath him.
  • He is a huge jerk to his best friend Rowley, treating him almost like a slave by forcing him to run errands for him, do tasks for him, force him to let him copy his tests and more. Rowley's book only makes these qualities worse where Greg is outright abusive towards Rowley.
  • While he suffers karma regularly for his misdeeds, he does manage to successfully escape punishment occasionally, such as when he wrote mean Valentine's Day cards, and wasn't caught.
  • Rowley aside, Greg manipulates just about everyone he comes across, with characters such as his schoolmates often being apart of his schemes.
