Ah, my rosy-cheeked new employees. I'm not going to lie, we're all here to make a buck. But it's the happiness of my people that gets me up each morning. My father, rest his soul, was a diamond miner. Got up at the crack of dawn each morning, smoked a cigarette and down into the earth he went. For that wonderful, wonderful man, the company was God. I bring that same reverence to my humble business here. And I expect all of you to do the same. Now there are only three company rules you have to follow. First, protect my product. You can f-ck them boys, but be gentle. Second, kill any native on sight. And, finally, all profits go to me. I'm an understanding boss, but if you break one of these rules... I roast you in the furnace until your skin crackles like chicken. Right enough talk. Those savages want to destroy my life's work. My pride and joy. Show them we mean business. Ah, I almost forgot, we have a special on this month: Your very own island for the head of Jason Brody.
~ Hoyt's terrifying orientation to his new Privateers.
So, hobbies. Cooking, painting, movies, crystal meth... What are yours?
~ Hoyt to Jason (aka "Foster")

Hoyt Volker is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Vaas Montenegro) of the 2012 first-person shooter game Far Cry 3. He runs the biggest slave trading ring in the South Pacific, and he is the 'tyrant' of the South Island of the Rook Islands. Compared to Vaas, Hoyt is referred to as a 'demon'. He is the leader of his band of Privateers, who command the South Islands for him.

He was voiced by Steve Cumyn.

What makes him Entertaining?[]

  • He gives of a very "Evil is Cool" vibe during his appearences.
  • He is very intimidating with his thick and furious South African accent and his unpredictability.
  • He is very charismatic, as shown in his orientation to his new Privateers.
  • He is demonstrated multiple times to be extremely intelligent, as he was able to figure out that "Foster" was actually Jason disguised as one of his privateers. Not only that, but he was able to figure out that Sam Becker was working with him.
  • He has an implicit tragedy of living with an abusive father.

What makes him Detestable?[]

  • The reason he can't be a Magnificent Baddie is due to his needlessly cruel profession of slave trading. He even lets his privateers rape the people they traffick, as long as they are, in his words, 'gentle'.
  • His tragedy of living with an abusive father doesn't really hold up when it's considered he wants to outdo his father in terms of heinousness.
  • He corrupts Vaas Montenegro into the lunatic that he is with the promise of money and drugs.
  • He completely knowingly makes Jason torture his own brother, Riley, out of pure sadism.
  • He cuts off Jason's ring finger because he lost a game of Poker, before engaging Jason in a knife duel and dying himself.
