~ Infinite to the Rookie |
Infinite is the secondary antagonist of the 2017 platform game Sonic Forces and the main antagonist of its DLC prequel, Episode Shadow.
He is voiced by Takashi Kondō in Japanese and Liam O'Brien in English.
His Qualities[]
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- His entire character was intended to be cool and complex to a certain degree, with great qualities including his cool design, his intimidating voice and his complexity.
- Not only does he have many "Evil is Cool" moments in general, but he's for the most part successful, only failing right at the end. The reason why he's pretty successful is because he helped conquer 99% of the entire world.
- He has a cool villain song that goes rather hard on the music, explores his character in more detail and is plain awesome to listen to.
- As a one-man army, he isn't a coward, constantly facing his own problems head-on.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- He has quite a few Stupid Evil moments, most infamously a petty goal of being beaten and taunted by Shadow over being "weak", and targets Sonic rather than Shadow.
- He led many attacks on cities to spread the Eggman Empire's influence.
- He is incredibly sadistic, as he loves to toy around with his victims, something that ends up backfiring on him.
- He tried to scorch the resistance with a giant sun.
- He never truely cared for Eggman since he tried to kill him at first.
- He's also portrayed more as an incompetent despite being another type of genuine threat to the whole Sonic Universe.
Trivia[]
- There is a common fan theory that Infinite cared for his squad. This is unclear as he was shown forcing his squad to ally with Eggman against their will in the comic, and whilst, he sounded upset when hearing about his destroyed squad, this could've been related to them being useful minions rather than genuinely caring about them as individuals. Additionally, he never mentions them ever again, and his later goals have nothing to do with avenging his fallen comrades, implying he never cared for them or he has moved on from caring for his squad.
- The fate of Infinite remains ambiguous, considering that even though it was shown that he did not die after what happened to the Phantom Ruby prototype in Sonic Otherworld Comedy, he still disappeared into light, but it is not known makes it clear if he is dead or just disappeared again.
- Another theory about the fate of Infinite, in the entirety of Forces' Main Campaign, Infinite's presence was just one of the illusory projection of himself, while his body is located somewhere within Eggman's base. It's still ambiguous whether Infinite was inside the tower that Eggman which he had destroyed to thwart the heroes, or was absorbed into the real Phantom Ruby after the 3rd encounter.
- He is the only Sonic the Hedgehog Pure Evil that works with Dr. Eggman.
- According to an early draft of the script of Sonic Forces, Infinite was originally going to create a replica of Mephiles the Dark.
