Khada Jhin, simply known as Jhin or The Virtuoso, is a villainous playable character on the multiplayer online battle arena game League of Legends.
Formerly a serial killer, Jhin is a highly skilled assassin that works for the Ionian government to spread terror on his enemies. With a cunning mind and artistic flairs, Jhin remains ever-determined to make each and every death spectacular.
The 129th champion to be released, Jhin was added on February 1, 2016, and one of the most popular ranged champions of the game. Jhin has a completely evil variant from the PROJECT universe, named PROJECT Jhin.
He is voiced by Quinton Flynn in League of Legends and Brian T. Delaney in Legends of Runeterra. In the Japanese version, he is voiced by Shō Hayami, who also voiced Sōsuke Aizen.
His Qualities[]
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- He is an enigmatic character shrouded in mystery, which combined with his engaging portrayal makes him hard to hate.
- He demonstrates a philosophical personality, explaining his views and his motivations behind his crimes in a manner that intrigues the audience rather than making him despicable.
- Quinton Flynn's voice performance did a great job of bringing out Jhin's character, giving him a chilling yet charming demeanor.
- He is refined and composed at all times. Though he shows no emotion in his speech, it only makes him more unnerving due to his psychopathy.
- He is intelligent and strategic, planning out his killings in advance by setting up his traps before the crime and distracting his witnesses as he makes his getaway.
- He is good at disguising himself, being able to pass off as an ordinary Ionian and blend in with the crowd until he can enact his plans.
- Despite his psychopathy, he is complex and often faces insecurities and inner conflicts that bring out the humanity in an otherwise irredeemable monster, though he is quick to brush them off.
- He is associated with a motif of beauty and perfection, along with his obsession with the number 4, that makes him a memorable character.
- His crime scenes are usually overlayed with his lotus traps and beautiful aesthetics rather than being depicted in a graphic way, which prevents his bloodlust and sadism from overshadowing his charm.
- He has an appropriate theme song which showcases his motifs and the feelings he evokes.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- His crimes are treated in-universe as being horrifying and traumatic, with the most notable cases being Usan/Zed (who eventually became disillusioned with the Kinkou Order's philosophy of harmony, renaming himself Zed and becoming an extremist to take justice into his own hands) and Hwei (who developed an inner conflict within himself after witnessing Jhin's massacre of his temple). One witness' mind was broken so severely from seeing one of Jhin's crimes that he was only able to mutter incomprehensibly and laugh madly.
- He frequently commits kick-the-dog acts to spite his nemesis Usan/Zed during their conflicts:
- After Usan had himself captured as bait in Jyom Pass during the Blossom Festival, Jhin taunted him about how Master Kusho prevented him from being in a relationship with Yevnai due to being arranged to be with Shen. Knowing how much he loved Yevnai, Jhin threatened to kill her in a graphic manner while forcing him to watch and potentially make Shen blame him for giving him the opportunity to kill her, causing Usan to tearfully beg for him to spare her.
- During the Blossom Festival in Sotka River sixteen years later, he killed four of Usan's pupils to lure him to a designated trap, sailing away on a boat as he activated his bombs to kill hundreds of innocent people, just to teach the helpless Usan that he couldn't fight him alone.
- In the city of Nanthee, he lured both Zed and Shen to a dock before boasting to Zed about his "perfection" before blowing up the entire city with his bombs, killing hundreds more people and leaving all of the buildings as burning ruins.
- During his performance depicted in Legends of Runeterra, he commits his vilest act by manipulating a priestess (dubbed the Stagehand) traumatized by her guilt for letting the forces of Noxus invade her homeland into becoming a suicide bomber to cause more deaths along with herself in her despair.
