The Joker is the main antagonist of Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham franchise, which is based on the DC Comics superhero Batman.
He psychologically torments Batman and the rest of Gotham City in one way or the other throughout all four games. Originally planning to take over Gotham's criminal network, the Joker dropped it and became interested in breaking Batman's one rule after being saved by him.
He is voiced by Mark Hamill in Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Knight (who also voiced Ozai in Avatar: The Last Airbender), as well as Troy Baker in Batman: Arkham Origins, Arkham Origins: Blackgate and Suicide Squad: Assault on Arkham.
His Qualities[]
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- Mark Hamill does a magnificent job portraying him in the latter three games, as well as Troy Baker's near-indistinguishable performance in "Origins".
- Joker's behavior, despite being utterly ruthless, is full of moments of black comedy, keeping him from becoming too hateful.
- Is a capable strategist, taking over Black Mask's empire as well as Arkham Asylum with no one the wiser until it was too late.
- Became genuinely interested in Batman after he was saved, trying to understand what made him tick.
- Drafts a plan in which Batman would either kill him or Bane, not caring about his life. It was so well-made that Batman had to use the Electrocutioner's gloves to save both of them, which Joker didn't think Batman had.
- Organized his arrest so that he and his henchmen arrive at Arkham Asylum, so that he could take it over and coerce Dr. Young to hand over the TITAN formula.
- Freed inmates like the Scarecrow, Bane, Zsasz, etc. to distract Batman.
- After Joker became fatally ill, he contracted Clayface to play as him so that Gotham won't be wise about his current predicament.
- Manipulated Batman into getting his cure, which only failed due to his own impulsiveness.
- Despite his plan failing in the end, Joker accepted his death with grace and laughed at it.
- He has a very cool theme in Arkham Origins which is fittingly a more intense version of Carol of the Bells.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- His whole motivation for committing crimes is "for the evulz": Joker commits several heinous crimes just for the sake of it, which includes massacring children and torturing people with his "Joker gas".
- He stalked Black Mask's girlfriend and when the man came, he forced to him to kill her while bruning down the room.
- Put a fifty million bounty on Batman's head and sent some of the most dangerous assassins after him, such as Bane, Deathstroke, Copperhead, and Firefly.
- He turned the Royal Hotel into his personal base of operations filled with torturous and deadly circus rides which creeps out Batman of all people.
- After Batman saved his life after their first encounter, Joker becomes obsessed with the Dark Knight wishing to break him and corrupt him into a monster like he is.
- Corrupted Dr. Harleen Quinzel into becoming Harley Quinn by falsely convincing her that he loves her.
- Shot and crippled Barbara Gordon for life.
- Lured Jason Todd and brutally tortured him as well as manipulated him into believing that Batman abandoned him, causing him to snap and become the Arkham Knight.
- He routinely abused Harley, knowing that she is too devoted to him to fight back.
- Poisoned thousands of innocent people across Gotham with his titanized blood (which according to Joker's progressive symptoms is extremely painful) just so that Batman could synthesize a cure.
- After coming back as a hallucination/parasitic spirit inside Batman's mind, he psychologically torments him over his tragedies and failures over the course of Batman: Arkham Knight, sabotaging the vigilante's efforts to stop Scarecrow and breathe in the fear toxin so that Joker's presence can become stronger and eventually take over Batman entirely.
- Is a horrific Bad Boss, taunting his men in the stealth segments against Batman for a laugh.
