~ Jaq to Gus about Lucifer's bullying. |
Lucifer is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Drizella Tremaine) of Disney's Cinderella franchise.
His Qualities[]
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- He is Disney's most iconic, fun and memorable example of a feline Love To Hate villain. Where he is so malicious and sadistic that he happily torments and inconveniences Cinderella, the bloodhound Bruno and the mice with so much joy in having spite and being a mean-spirited bully who was poked fun at by Gus for how he walks in a silly way but Jaq reminds him of how mean he truly is, but his nasty personality is done in a funny and comical fashion that makes you like him for his deviousness/slyness and smugness he shows throughout the film.
- He provides many hilarious scenes throughout the film, such as the scene he shows his annoyance for taking baths, the moment where he got a broomstick landing on his head thanks to Jaq launching said broomstick while Lucifer was toying with Gus' vulnerability, and many of his bumbling hijinks that includes the moments where he chased the duo, Jaq and Gus, and slammed into the mouse hole at least twice (cause his snout to be shaped like a square).
- However, while he is pretty comical and a little clumsy, he nevertheless serves as a genuine threat to the mice, especially since he tries to trap the mice, and he was so strategic that he almost managed to get away with eating Jaq and Gus due to hiding in spots nobody would be able to find him, almost winning at killing Jaq and his friends and family in a secretive and manipulative manner before Cinderella told her birds to get Bruno to intimidate and chase him to defeat in order to for Lucifer's cowardice to cause his first defeat.
- How much of a clever, wily and cunning trickster he is for a sneaky cat like him, which allows him to make many smart moves that makes you admire his cleverness and several elaborate attempts at outsmarting Jaq and Gus, such as the moment Lucifer sat on the necklace and dragged it with him while going after Jaq to prevent Gus from getting the necklace, was also clever enough to detect anyone's presence and can see the fun in someone's misery being a strategic advantage of his (which he'd show with a smug smile). The only reason he lost is because of Cinderella’s own intelligence of having Bruno to chase Lucifer in order to keep all the mice safe.
- He is not without his sympathetic moments despite many of his nasty qualities, such as the second film where he tried to get a date with Pom-Pom, which got botched up by him and his former girlfriend failing to eat the mice and gets himself knocked out while dumped as well.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- He is often incredibly sadistic and overall, a selfish jerk who carries a petty level of enjoyment in being mean and evil, an obstreperous troublemaker and relishes in being a general nuisance to Cinderella and the mice.
- Many of acts of his mischief are solely on the expense of someone unprovoked, especially since Lucifer has a hobby for torturing mice, get into some scheming, finding ways to make Bruno and Cinderella's lives miserable, and also constantly trying to sabotage Cinderella's plans and get her into trouble like attending the ball.
- He's also a malicious bully who loves to bully innocent people, as he loves targeting Gus as his favorite victim for being a fat dumb mouse he can mess with.
- He was shown to be an expert liar and schemer who resorts to many dirty tricks in order to revel his enjoyment in making everyone's lives a living a hell, especially since he got Bruno framed into Cinderella scolding him for not getting along when Lucifer was the cause, and he often tricks the mice into doing the wrong things.
- He's only loyal to Lady Tremaine for the fact she puts a roof over his head, otherwise, he's nothing more than a gluttonous, cruel, sour, baleful, sadistic, sneaky, and rotten pet cat who torments with people's vulnerabilities for fun but is a dirty coward when the tables are turned on him.
- It's implied that he was (indirectly) responsible for the death of Cinderella's father due to severe cat allergies. However, it's also even hinted that Lady Tremaine having Lucifer as her pet, would also have made her be more at fault for his death rather than Lucifer.
