“ | I claim this planet in the name of Mars! Isn't that lovely? Hmmm? | „ |
~ Marvin the Martian |
Marvin the Martian is one of the main antagonists of the Looney Tunes franchise.
His Qualities[]
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- He is portrayed as the quietest, calmest and politest of the Looney Tunes villains, and the most soft-spoken, and unlike most of the other villains, he is very clever.
- He started out with a nasally American voice, but then was given a snooty, sort-of upper-class English accent, making his voice acting performances extremely entertaining to watch.
- He has a lot of comedic traits to his character despite his destructive tendency.
- He has several iconic lines, such as:
- "This makes me very angry, very angry indeed."
- "Isn't that lovely? Hmmm?"
- "Where's the Kaboom? There was supposed to be an Earth-Shattering Kaboom!"
- He has been shown to be genuinely affable to several people, even his own archenemy Bugs Bunny. In fact, in The Looney Tunes Show, he was a good friend of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and Pete Puma. He also teamed up with Daffy and Porky to defeat The F.U.D.D., who was terrorizing everybody, in the Duck Dodgers episode "The F.U.D.D.".
- His Martian design is one of the most interesting cartoon designs ever, being meant to look ant-like, according to Chuck Jones.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- He regularly attempts to destroy Earth, often for petty reasons such as wanting a better view of Venus since Earth obstructs his view of it.
- He tried to kill several characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig many times.
- In Looney Tunes: Back In Action, he tried to help Mr. Chairman in his evil plan to turn all people into monkeys and to kill Damian Drake, D.J. Drake, Kate Houghton, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. He also released many dangerous and illegal aliens in Area 52.
- Despite his general politeness and affability, he can sometimes be portrayed as faux affable, especially when his goals are more malevolent.
- He was willing to kill billions of humans just because the Earth was blocking his view of Venus.
- He is shown to be utterly remorseless and shameless about what he does, as to him, blowing up a planet is given the regard of taking out the garbage.
- He is too petty to be a Magnificent Baddie, as his main motivation for wanting to destroy Earth is because it obstructs his view of Venus, and is also too incompetent since his plans are foiled very easily.
