Nightmare nicknamed The Azure Knight, is the main antagonist of the Bandai Namco fighting game series, Soul Calibur.
He is the manifestation of the infamous cursed sword Soul Edge who was originally created to be the alter-ego of Siegfried Schtauffen until finally being as a standalone character.
In the Japanese dub, he was voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama in Soulcalibur, Soulcalibur II and Soulcalibur VI, Fumihiko Tachiki in Soulcalibur III, Kosei Hirota in Soulcalibur Legends, Soulcalibur IV and Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny and Yasunori Masutani in Soulcalibur V. In the English dub, he was voiced by Ted D Agostino in Soulcalibur II, Patrick Ryan in Soulcalibur III, Michael McConnohie in Soulcalibur Legends, Soulcalibur IV and Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, Charles Klausmeyer in Soulcalibur V and Kirk Thornton in Soulcalibur VI.

What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- He is one of the most iconic figures of Soul Calibur, due to being the main antagonist on almost every game in the series. He then even made his return in the alternative timeline and being the main antagonist once again.
- His Japanese voice actors, Nobuyuki Hiyama, Fumihiko Tachiki, Kosei Hirota, and Yasunori Masutani and his English voice actors such as Ted D'Agostino, Patrick Ryan, Michael McConnohie, Charles Klausmeyer, and Kirk Thornton gives an outstanding, chill-thrilling performance by voicing this character.
- Despite having some moral agency issues due to being a fragment of Soul Edge, he remains intellect, as he is still able to think and figure things out.
- He has a scary, but cool and satisfying design, especially his armor.
- He has an epic encounter with his archnemesis, Siegfried, which became one of the most anticipated rivalries in fighting gaming history.
- He is an incredibly powerful and skilled swordsmen, which he is considered one of the most dangerous threats in the series and such, his savagery is what also makes him a fan favorite.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- While he does have a lot of "Evil Is Cool" moments, he still comes off as extremely petty as he brutally killed millions of innocent people when taking over Siegfried's body just so he could restore Soul Edge's ultimate power.
- In the final chapter of the original timeline when ordered Patroklos to slay the supposed "Malfested", he tricked him into killing humans instead and showed no remorse whatsoever doing so by calling them foolish.
Trivia[]
Nightmare so far, is the only Soul Calibur character to be Entertainingly Detestable.
