Geoform 187, better known as Ridley, is the main antagonist of the Metroid franchise. He made his debut appearance in the very first game of the franchise and returned in almost every other entry in different shape or form.
He is a large, dragon-like alien and one of the leaders of the Space Pirates. He is an arch-nemesis of Samus Aran as he is single-handedly responsible for the deaths of her parents when she was only 3-years old.
His Qualities[]
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- His cool and intimidating dragon-like alien design combined with visible skeleton-skins and sharp tail really appealed to a lot of people, even to non-Metroid fans.
- Despite his animalistic appearance, he is shown to be highly intelligent as displayed in the Metroid manga, he is able to display faux affectionate when the toddler Samus tried to befriend him during the attack of K-2L Colony.
- His boss themes are often considered some of the best and iconic soundtracks in the Metroid series. As for the matter of fact, his boss theme in Other M is often regarded as one of few memorable tracks in that game.
- His boss battles are also often regarded to be some of the best boss fights in the series.
- He has a lot of Evil is Cool moments, like when he endured the most fatal wounds and survive, effectively cheating death at every turn and effectively sneak attacked Samus in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
- His rivalry with Samus Aran is often considered from many video game (especially Nintendo) fans as one of the most iconic hero-villain duo in gaming.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- He is an incredibly cruel and sadistic alien who takes too much pleasure in the suffering of others, especially Samus.
- He tries to kill an innocent 3-year old Samus who only wanted to befriend him, only ended killing her mother instead.
- He cruelly taunted Samus about how he killed her parents and ate their corpse, even stating that they did not taste good.
- He slaughtered the entire Ceres colony in order to capture the Baby Metroid. But instead of leaving the colony, he waited for Samus to arrive just to see her reaction on the massacre he committed.
- He is also a terrible leader of his fellow Space Pirates, like when he immediately flew away from Frigate Orpheon to Tallon IV as its reactor melts down, leaving behind all of his comrades that are still onboard, nor does he ever expressed any sadness or anger when they were killed by Samus.
