Serrator, referred to legends as the Nighlok King, is the overarching antagonist of Power Rangers Samurai series. He is the one responsible for turning Dayu and Deker into Nighloks.
His Qualities[]
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- He is considered one of the most iconic Power Rangers villains in the divisive Neo Saban era and one of the most loved villains in Samurai and Super Samurai alongside Deker, to the point where some fans wish he were the final boss instead of Master Xandred.
- It helps that unlike Master Xandred, who hardly does anything but get angry at his minions and drink "medicine", Serrator is more active and has fought the rangers more times.
- He is an excellent master manipulator who planned his endgame 200 years in advance and is charismatic enough to have his own following of Nighlok monsters.:
- He used the fire that burned Dayu and Deker's home (and may have caused it, but it's never actually confirmed) to trick the former into trading her humanity to save Deker's life, which he does, albeit by cursing him.
- He managed to win Xandred's trust by sending a monster to herald his arrival, blasted some Moogers he created when he does arrive and took Xandred's attack on him to "prove his loyalty".
- He carefully set up several attacks that would create enough human misery to form a marker, ultimately forming a straight line.
- He successfully pulls off a benevolent facade and even saved some of them from being killed off to win the loyalty of his men. He even convinced Dayu and Deker to work for him for a time.
- He uses Xandred drying out faster than any other Nighlok to take over his ship to continue his plans without his interference.
- His plan nearly succeeded with several wedges having already bursted and only fails due to Deker stopping it at the last minute.
- He has multiple moments of hamminess and even some funny lines like his final words "I was supposed to split open your world. You weren't supposed to do it to me.". It helps that his voice actor Derek Judge gives him a smooth and calm yet slimey and dark voice.
- He is an excellent fighter who is the second most powerful Nighlok in the series, besting the rangers in almost every fight.
- While he does run away from Xandred when he goes to Earth to punish him for his treachery, it's pretty understandable since Xandred is stronger and a mighty powerhouse. Other than that, he shows no fear towards his enemies including the rangers and is even the only Nighlok who stopped the Gigazord's finisher move.
- His creation of the Papyroxes shows he's great at making his own monsters.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- He is too sadistic and cruel to be a Magnificent Baddie with his act of cursing Dayu and Deker being treated as a huge Kick The Dog moment as well as a Fate Worse Than Death. He was also easily fooled by Deker into believing he would willingly go along with his plan and only finds out too late when Deker slashes him instead of the final wage. Any magnificence he may have had gets thrown out the window after Deker foils his plan and has a huge Villainous Breakdown.
- His set of Nighlok monsters also share in their master's cruelty and are considered darker than Xandred's.
- He mocked Dayu when she comes to retrieve her harmonium for not figuring out her role as a pawn sooner.
- His endgame is to rule both words by splitting open the Earth, thus he will gladly cause a double omnicide to see his ambitions happen.
- Unlike Xandred who is at least pragmatic enough to keep his own kind alive and fix the Harmonium he damaged, Serrator doesn't care at all if some of his own species were killed off.
