Stanford Leonard Smith, better known as Stan Smith, is the main protagonist of the adult sitcom show, American Dad Created for Fox Broadcasting Company. As husband to Francine and father to Hayley and Steve, he is a C.I.A Official. Due to him committing many crimes, he can be considered as a protagonist villain.

What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- Since his dimwitted and jolly traits is often shown to be comedic throughout the show's narrative, he is known for having plenty of comedic moments.
- In the early seasons, he is a decent and loving father to his family and does whatever he can to help them from time to time.
- He is shown to be a great singer, as shown when he sings many different songs, such as the song about Oliver North during the Iran Contra Affair and "Takin' Care of Business".
- He regularly goes out on dangerous adventures for the C.I.A to protect his family, people, and the country he loves.
- He has a tragic past of being abandoned by his father.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- He is abusive towards Hayley, especially with their own political views and when performing plastic surgery on her face.
- He is very racist and xenophobic to other people with different races, as proven when he berated Bob and Linda Memari as terrorists and is prejudiced against same sex couple raising children.
- He is still prone to having a hostile temper and for having way too many violent outbursts that doesn't get in his way, such as locking up members of his neighborhood in his self-made detention center in his backyard and threatening to assault or kill anyone he encounters.
- He is often a corrupt C.I.A. official, as shown when he commits a whole load of crimes such as attempting or confirming to kill dozens of people that gets in his way and causing misery to other people for his own stupidity, paranoia and amusement without showing any remorse for what he had done.
- He is often a horrible and abusive husband to Francine by constantly treating her poorly and proclaimed he just married her for her looks.
- He happens to be a massive hypocrite on multiple occasions such as the time when he told Hayley to stop texting while drive and does the exact same thing like her, which caused an accident.
- There are several moments where he can be abusive to Steve and beats him up as a bully in order to toughen him to be brave.
- He is a bad friend to Roger, as shown when he hid Roger from the C.I.A., even if he’s trying to protect him (regardless, Roger absolutely deserves it for his many of his disgraceful actions).
- Stan also tormented and disregarded Klaus on many occasions, further showing that he can be abusive and neglectful of Klaus.
- Plus, he happens to put Klaus in a body of a goldfish and left the German athlete fatally wounded.
