“ | Starscream: Be reasonable, Prime! This cold will freeze both our actuators. Optimus: The current temperatures are not extreme enough to affect our biology. You'll be fine. Starscream: Fine but miserable. And I cannot believe that you take our alliances for granted. After all I have done for the Autobots helping to restore your memory, saving Arcee's life. Optimus: While you have at times proved beneficial to us, it has been only to further your own interests. Starscream: Well, we can't all be as selfless as you. |

“ | Why assume that we will be the ones that perform the deed. After all, if the Predaking were to discover that say... the Autobots were responsible for wiping out his comrades, our resident beast may in turn destroy our hated enemies for us, or they him. | „ |
~ Starscream putting his own spin to Megatron's orders to annihilate Shockwave's Predacon clones |
Starscream is the secondary antagonist of the 2010-2013 animated series, Transformers: Prime and the main antagonist in the second half of season 2 of its 2015-2017 sequel series, Transformers: Robots in Disguise.
He is the treacherous and scheming second-in-command of the Decepticons who frequently plots to usurp Megatron's position as the supreme leader of the Decepticons to conquer the galaxy, frequently butting heads with the Autobots and becoming one of their most dangerous foes.
Disillusioned by Megatron's decision to disband the Decepticons at the end of Prime, Starscream becomes an independent threat seeking to succeed where Megatron failed using the powers of the Minicons.
He is voiced by Steve Blum, who has also voiced his counterpart in Transformers: EarthSpark, Vilgax and Zs'Skayr in the Ben 10 franchise, Jindiao in Kung Fu Panda: Paws of Destiny, Ares in God of War, the Green Goblin in The Spectacular Spider-Man, Red Skull in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Sauron in the Middle-earth: Shadow games and Darkseid in Justice League: War.
His Qualities[]
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- Steve Blum did an excellent job voicing him to perfection.
- He has several entertaining and non detracting comedic moments to show how much of a cowardly weasel he is and a plethora of iconic quotes.
- Megatron's treatment of him (while justified) makes his conflict with Megatron understandable as when Megatron trapped himself in a collapsed mine, he rightly realizes that Megatron would simply blame him for the matter, no matter what would happen. Also Megatron often harms him for no apparent reason other reason (besides his treachery) despite Starscream managing to keep the Decepticons alive for 3 years.
- He is an extremely good pilot, as he once manage to escape a collapse mine Megatron caused and manage to evade the Nemesis firing on him.
- He used Makeshift to spy on the Autobots and would've succeeded in locating the Autobot base had Wheeljack not stopped him.
- After being abandoned by Megatron, Starscream becomes an independent force. He would later manipulate the Autobots into becoming their ally so that he could gain their respect and assistance on occasions, such as telling Orion Pax he used to be Optimus Prime and saving Arcee from Airachnid.
- He also additionally manage to track Megatron's warship The Nemesis to steal some Energon cubes and manage to do so until he ran into Orion Pax. When he was caught he manage to avoid their fire until he was shot and had to call Ratchet and Bulkhead for medical treatment.
- When the two Groundbridge to him, Starscream manage to tell them the location of the Decepticon Space Bridge.
- Even though it's not a redeeming quality, he understandably hated Airachnid for leaving him behind and taking his position in the Decepticons.
- Starscream also values gratitude as:
- In "Crisscross", he proves that he's not completely ungrateful and freed a bound and helpless Arcee as repayment for her earlier mercy. Additionally while he was manipulating the Autobots for his own gain, he could of killed Arcee to regain Megatron's flavor he allowed her to live.
- His friendship with Knock Out is genuine, even if he does mistreat him and backstab him. In fact it is implied Starscream treat Knock Out like dirt is due to the fact Knock Out is just (if not) more of a coward then him, as he left him for dead at Dreadwing's mercy and told Ratchet the Decepitcon's plans to wipe out the Predacon clones.
- He also develops a undying loyalty to Megatron when he gave him a final chance that he didn't deserve, but saved his life by killing Dreadwing and was the only one upset of his death.
- While his plans often backfire, Starscream has moments of being a skilled tactician, which is why Megatron keeps him alive.
- He manage to come up with a plan to destroy the Predacon clones and blame the Autobots. The plan would of continued if Knock Out didn't spoil the beans to Ratchet. The plan also manage to almost kill his rival Shockwave and create a new form of Cybermatter which the Decepitcons would later use.
- He manage to use a small dose of Red Energon to achieve super speed in a replacement for his stolen T-Cog and Apex Armor.
- After deciding to go his own way, Starscream used a old Decepticon ship, the Harbinger as his base of operations where he installed a small laboratory and his own GroundBridge.
- He also manage to create several clones of himself and gave a hilarious expression when he found out they had a T-Cog which he loss to Silas. He also manage to kill his last clone even commenting he knows his pain.
- He manipulated both Autobots and Decepticons to fight Airachnid, which nearly resulted in all of them all destroying each other, which would've eliminated all of Starscream's enemies.
- He found the Apex Armor and used it to pick a fight against Optimus Prime and Dreadwing who had to team up against him.
- He additionally manage to manipulate both of them and breakout of his restrains.
- He was able to acquire Red Energon, which gave him the superspeed necessary to steal the Omega Keys.
- He used quick wit to successfully steal all the 4 Omega Keys to bribe Megatron for a place back into the Decepticons.
- His abuse of Predaking is somewhat justified as Shockwave program him to hate Starscream. Even when Starscream tried to train him gently, the Predaking kelp throwing him around and almost got him in trouble with Megatron a few times. So Starscream didn't know Predaking was sentient and saw it as just an animal as he was surprise Predaking could transform. Plus Starscream didn't know the Predaking was sentient.
- While the Predaking purposefully messed with Starscream on the Nemesis for fun, he went far to often attack Starscream for no reason at all and made it hard for him to carry out his orders despite knowing Megatron would punish him for it, and destroyed the ship's communication array just to get Starscream away from him.
- He becomes very loyal to Megatron by season 3.
- After Megatron redeems himself, he modifies his body and becomes a bigger and better threat towards the heroes.
- Although he is a massive smug snake and backstabs his allies, Starscream became one of the most complex villains with his Pet the Dog moments. He only went back to his old self when he realized he has no friends and everyone dosen't trust him even though he shows gratitude evey-now- and-then.
- Several times he is not an impulse as when he meet an amnesiac Orion Pax and when a clone of him encountered Bulkhead on the Nemesis. He refused to help Bulkhead due to their agreement and only got agressive when Bulkhead tried to strongarm him to help him.
- Also when Starscream was called out by Optimus for only helping them due to benefiting him, this also served as the last straw for Starscream as he became far eviler than before.
- He also has a sense of pragmatism as he was understandably angry that Skylynx and Darksteel attack Smokescreen and Ultra Mangus before the rest of the cloned Predakons were ready.
- He also mentions he manage to evade the 3 Predacons and kill two of them (Skylynx and Darksteel) using the weapons in the Darkmount fortress
- Would've ultimately succeeded with his plans had he not suddenly lost a Mini-Con due to Fixit.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- He is a massive smug snake who is defined by his extreme arrogance and never learns from his mistakes.
- He is extremely cowardly, often fleeing whenever he's in danger or begging the heroes or Megatron for mercy. He also never has the guts to face the heroes head on.
- He is very treacherous and power-hungry, often wanting to be the one leading the Decepticons instead of Megatron. Although he was content with being Megatron's second-in-command later on, he would later harbor a petty grudge against Shockwave, and he would go back to wanting to kill Megatron after he said the Decepticons were no more.
- He is a horrible boss to his minions.
- He always treats Knock Out like dirt.
- He abused Predaking which caused him to have revenge against him.
- He also abused Skylynx and Darksteel, making them have revenge against him too.
- Starscream is arguably far worse of a boss to his Vehicons than Megatron.
- His tortures of Arcee are presented horrifically and he is very sadistic about her suffering.
- He killed Cliffjumper when he was defenseless and frequently taunted the Autobots about it.
- He damaged Bumblebee's T-Cog.
- He only asked the Autobots for help to boost his own agenda, and ultimately betrayed their trust (granted they never trusted him at all and several times left him for dead) by giving the Omega Lock keys to the Decepticons.
- Has no problem with harming children as he kidnapped the Autobot human allies and handed Jack back for 2 bargaining chips.
- He played a huge role in destroying the Autobot base.
- He wholeheartedly supported Megatron’s plans in cyberforming Earth.
- Went on a quest to try to kill Optimus Prime and Megatron for their "crimes" against him and then rule the universe. Hypocritically, he sees nothing wrong with his own crimes.
