Entertainingly Detestable Wiki

Let's get this storm started! Ooh! Hey! That's good. I should trademark that.
~ The Storm King's most famous quote.
Remember, Tempest, only I have the power to make you whole. Make this twig work, and you'll get your reward. Fail me, and your horn won't be the only thing that's broken.
~ The Storm King threatening Tempest.

The Storm King is the main antagonist of Lionsgate's 2017 animated musical feature film My Little Pony: The Movie. He is the former master of both Tempest Shadow and Grubber.

He is a tyrannical conqueror who commanded a formidable army in his quest for power from lands beyond Equestria. His army, led by Tempest, invaded and conquered Canterlot so he could steal the magic of the Alicorn Princesses with the Staff of Sacanas so he could become all-powerful and take over the world. After he accomplished this task, he discarded all his servants, including Tempest, believing that he could rule the world with no-one at his side, but this decision ultimately led to his downfall and petrification.

He was voiced by Liev Schreiber, who also voiced the Kingpin in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

  • His image as a mysterious, intimidating and cruel tyrant is perfectly combined with his sarcastic dark humor, which perfectly emphasizes his status as a ruthless, arrogant, selfish, psychopathic character.
  • He has an interesting design that simultaneously raises many thoughts regarding his original origin, but at the same time gives him a great atmosphere of a dangerous and intimidating enemy to be reckoned with.

  • While he may appear silly at times due to his sometimes frivolous behavior, he is intelligent enough to understand the various aspects of all kinds of magic in Equestria and beyond, make deals with his future subordinates and keep them in line until the right moment, and also to suppress any attempts to resist his actions and plans in advance and quite unexpectedly, which allowed him to have a good understanding of various magical artifacts and objects and understand the value of their power to him, easily mislead Tempest Shadow with his false deal regarding the restoration of her horn in exchange for helping him conquer Equestria, and calmly and without any problems catch the Mane 6 and even Celestia, Luna and Cadance off guard with his surprise attack on Canterlot and easily capitulate them to his plan, showing that in terms of intelligence, he is capable of being truly dangerous and calculating when needed.

What Makes Him Detestable?[]

  • He has spent a long time conquering, plundering, and destroying many lands outside of Equestria, including Abyssinia and the kingdom of Hippogriffs.
  • He tricked and manipulated Tempest Shadow into helping him gain Equestria's magic in exchange for restoring her horn, something the Storm King had no intention of doing, planning to get rid of Tempest once she played her part in his plan.

  • He ordered his army, along with Tempest and Grubber, to invade and conquer Canterlot, capturing four alicorn princesses for their magic along the way.
  • His actions in conquering Canterlot indirectly traumatized Twilight and made her very stubborn and reckless throughout the film, which also led to her temporary falling out with the other members of the Mane 6 and her attempt to steal the Pearl of Transformation.
  • In an attempt to destroy the members of the Mane 6 and their allies, he created a giant tornado that endangered everyone in Canterlot, including his own army.
  • Before his final defeat, he attempted to turn the Mane 6 into stone with an obsidian sphere to prevent them from returning everything to normal.
  • His actions indirectly caused The Storm, a piece of his Staff of Sacanas' magic, to enter the Human World through a portal on the island, gain self-awareness, and attempt to kill the members of the Humane 7, as well as dozens of other people on the cruise ship, threatening the lives of everyone in the Human World in the process.
