Trigon is the overarching antagonist of the 2003 animated superhero TV series Teen Titans.
He is an inter-dimensional demon with immense power and the father/arch-nemesis of Raven, one of the members of the Teen Titans. His goal was to take over the universe after destroying the Earth. He even recruits the Teen Titans' arch-nemesis Slade in order to assist him in his goals. With his immense power, he is easily the biggest threat the Titans have ever came across.
His Qualities[]
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- He has a pretty big "Evil is Cool" vibe to his character, having impressive traits such as having many attacks involving fire (especially since he comes from a fiery plane), having immense power, and being the ultimate incarnation of all evil.
- He is most powerful foe the Titans have ever faced, to the point of supplanting Slade as the Big Bad of season 4.
- He is a skilled manipulator, as he was able to deceive Slade into thinking that he was being sincere.
- He is called "The Terrible" for countless reasons, notably for betraying his own daughter and everyone he's ever worked with.
- As the main antagonist of season 4, he is at the undisputed top of the hierarchy of villains, surpassing even the show's main antagonist Slade.
- He stands out from other villains due to having a presence that darkens the mood of the show, as well as contributing to Raven's character development and shaping her into the way she is today.
- Very early on in the series, he started out as appearing in single episodes, and then in season 4 he becomes the main antagonist.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- Having killed his wife Arella, he was an abusive father to Raven since Raven was a child, having psychologically abused her and convinced her multiple times that her only purpose is to be a portal for him to arrive on Earth and take over the world. Eventually, his psychological abuse succeeded, and Raven caved in to what Trigon wanted, with Trigon using her as a portal to arrive on Earth and destroy it. This caused Raven to be stripped of her powers and memories and reduced to a frightened child. Thus, he is Raven's most personal enemy, given that he is her father who was responsible for her life turning out as horribly as it did.
- He destroyed Raven's homeworld of Azarath, leaving the entire world in ruins.
- He presumably conquered or destroyed multiple worlds in the past, easily having the highest kill count out of any villain in the series due to the amount of mass destruction and deaths that were caused.
- He has a Bad Boss moment when he betrays Slade after he delivers Raven, which makes Slade end up helping the Titans.
- He conquers Earth and destroys it by turning everyone, except the Titans, into stone; then covering Earth in lava and making it into a volcanic wasteland.
- He takes the negative sides of the Titans (sans Raven and Robin) and creates evil clones of them to fight, psychologically abuse, and torture the Titans to his own amusement, believing that they have no hope of defeating him.
- He is shown to relish in the pain he causes, and this combined with the mass acts destruction he commits makes him way too sadistic and violent to be a Magnificent Baddie.
Trivia[]
- He was originally considered a Hate Sink until it was decided that he has too many Evil is Cool factors.
