Turbo, also known as King Candy, is the main antagonist of Disney's 52nd full-length feature film Wreck-It Ralph and the overarching antagonist of its 2018 sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet.
He was the former protagonist of the most popular game TurboTime, who after accidentally crashing another game trying to take it over (which got both games shut down), he took over another game called Sugar Rush and made the game's princess Vanellope von Schweetz a glitch, ruining her life for many years.
He was voiced by Alan Tudyk, who also voiced Lenny in Ice Age, the Duke of Weselton in Frozen, Alistair Krei in Big Hero 6 and its spinoff series, Duke Weaselton in Zootopia, Van Wayne in Powerless, and Todd H. Watson in Final Space.
His Qualities[]
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- He is an excellent racer and consistently gets gold medals.
- He has a TON of hammy comedic moments, both under his facade and after his reveal.
- He had his true nature of being a villain hidden throughout the whole movie and nobody knew King Candy was a part of his facade until towards the end.
- The design of King Candy fits pretty well with Sugar Rush's aesthetic.
- He was also good at manipulating the other racers and NPCs into bullying Vanellope.
- Alan Tudyk's performance of the character is amazing.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- He tried game jumping into RoadBlasters to retain his popularity which got both games to be put out of order, hence why Fix-It Felix and Sergeant Calhoun called it "going Turbo" when somebody goes into a game that they're not a part of.
- He took over Sugar Rush and dethroned Vanellope, as well as wiping the memories of the people within Sugar Rush so that Vanellope's life is miserable.
- He tried picking up a glasses so that Ralph doesn't hurt him.
- He tried to have the whole arcade taken over after being eaten by a Cy-Bug.
- Overall, he has no redeeming qualities from start to finish and he looks out only for himself at the end of the day.
Trivia[]
- Despite the filmmakers intent to make him a psychopath at the end that deserved his death, they still had his comedic nature retained even after his reveal although it mostly highlights his sadism.
- The filmmakers intended early on to have King Candy and Turbo as separate characters have this been kept it would be unknown how his Entertainingly Detestable status would be affected.
