Void is the secondary antagonist of the Berserk franchise.
He is the oldest member of the God Hand and acts as the de facto leader of the group. When summoned through the Behelit by a tortured soul, he personally marks victims with the Brand of Sacrifice in order for the summoners to become Apostles.
What Makes Him Entertaining?[]
- He has a creepy awesome design of a tall humanoid with a large, exposed brain, eyes stitched shut and lips peeled back, and wears a badass long black cloaks.
- He has a nihilistic philosophy, often talks about fate and casuality, giving him a vibe of evil-is-cool.
- He is very sophisticated, speaking in a polite and mannered way. He addresses the Band of the Hawk as honored guests even though he is about to sacrifice and kill all of them.
- He is always calm, showing no emotion even when confronted by something unforeseen by him and his kinsmen.
- He is an omniscient and immensely powerful entity, can easily counter Skull Knight's attack by space manipulation.
- His has a very mysterious backstory. Although never directly stated, there are many hints about his backstory with Skull Knight and is heavily implied to have similar relationship with him, just like Guts and Griffith, which gives him an enigmatic presence and inspired many interpretations.
What Makes Him Detestable?[]
- In order to become a God Hand, it is implied that he betrayed King Gaiseric and sacrificed all of the citizens in Midland including his loved ones, which is evidenced by the countless skulls under tower of conviction.
- His act of sacrificing Skull Knight and his lover, the Lady Priestess of the Cherry Blossoms, caused Skull Knight to lead on a quest for vengeance towards the God Hand that has lasted a millennium.
- As the oldest God Hand member, he is responsible for many people sacrificing their loved ones to become apostles or a God Hand member, causing incalculable deaths and tragedies.
- During the eclipse, he manipulated Griffith to sacrifice all the members of Band of the Hawk by showing him the image of the castle Griffith admired in his youth.
- He marked Band of the Hawk members with Brand of Sacrifice, which caused nearly all of them to be killed, with two survivors Guts and Casca experiencing fate worse than death.
- He refused the count's request of saving his life, instead tried to persuade the count to sacrifice his own daughter Theresia.
