Zeus is the main antagonist of the Greek Era of God of War and the posthumous overarching antagonist of the Norse Era. The ruler of Olympus and later revealed to be Kratos's father, he aided Kratos in defeating Ares, while slowly succumbing to fear and paranoia regarding Kratos overthrowing him, thus slowly becoming his arch-nemesis.

He is played by Paul Eiding and Corey Burton.

What Makes Him Entertaining?[]

  • Freed his siblings from Cronos, their father who ate them due to paranoia.
  • While he punished his father by tying Pandora's Box and making him roam the desert, it can hardly be called unjustified due to his crimes.
  • Paul Eiding pulled off a great performance, capturing his ruthless and wise personality as well as his paranoid nature, making him a legitimately frighting foe. Corey Burton made an even greater outstanding performance of Zeus, showing his more paranoid and as well as his tyrannical nature and his unforgettable evil laugh, making it one of his most perfect performances of his career as a voice actor.
  • Single-handedly ended the Great Titan War by using the Blade of Olympus.
  • He aided Kratos in stopping Ares who planned to destroy Athens out of spite towards Athena.
  • Tricked Kratos into donating his power to the Colossus of Rhodes, accurately understanding he couldn't beat Kratos in a straight fight.
  • His speech at the beginning of God of War III is nothing short of badass.
  • His boss fight at the end of both God of War II and God of War III are immensely cool and is regard as oen of the greatest fights in video game history.
  • Despite being Pure Evil, his role as the lynchpin of Olympus makes an interesting moral challenge for Kratos's revenge.

What Makes Him Detestable?[]

  • Punished Gaia by sending her to Tartarus, despite her being the sole reason he's still alive and able to overthrow Cronos to begin with.
  • Kidnapped Persephone to make her Hades's bride, thus making her vengeful against Olympus.
  • Cheated on his wife Hera with numerous Greek women, thus leading to the births of Kratos, Deimos, Perseus, Hercules and so on.
  • Put a curse on Callisto to make her into a monster if she ever told her sons who their father was, despite him having no real reason to do so.
  • His unjustifiable paranoia against his children made him do several terrible things to safeguard his own throne, not the least being authorizing Thanatos to torture Deimos due to being the Marked Warrior, despite him also being his own son.
